ToggleWhy I Started This Charity Art Project
I learned about the outcome of the 2025 Canada G7 Summit and felt that Japan once again gave a vague response.
Japan faces many dilemmas, so I wanted to contribute in some way. As an artist, I chose to create charity art.
I believe medical support is the most urgent need, so I decided to donate to Médecins Sans Frontières (Japan Office).
Japan is a constitutional democracy. After World War II, Japan has followed a constitution made by the U.S.
Because of this, Japan is not allowed to have an aggressive military. Instead, it has a unique organization called the Self-Defense Forces.
(自衛隊, Jieitai)
Although it has no combat experience, it is said to have high-level self-defense capabilities—not military power.
Fortunately, Japan has had no combat experience, so it remains peaceful today.
I personally have two major dilemmas:
1.As a country:
Japan has high-level self-defense capabilities, but cannot take proactive action in global affairs.
2.In the media and economy:
Television prioritizes ratings, so programs with low viewer interest are not broadcast.
But without sufficient impressions (viewership), the economy cannot function properly.
This makes it difficult for less “popular” issues—including this charity project—to gain attention.
For example, no news program is reporting that Ukraine is being attacked by Russia while the world’s attention is focused on the situation in the Middle East.
I discovered that many world issues are not reported on Japanese television. I learned this through AI and the internet.
No one around me seems interested in this charity project either, and I understand why.
In Japan, talking about politics or economics is often avoided.
This is because such topics can easily lead to arguments and damage relationships.
(However, that is understandable…)
So, it is almost an unspoken rule not to bring them up in daily conversation.
